Heyscape x The Gretaway

Heyscape x The Gretaway

“Hey Greta, what are your thoughts on a trip with Heyscape? The off-grid, eco-friendly, West Australian based unique accommodation company? All the cabins are found in unique areas, away from the lights of major towns and cities. They’ve got a focus on working with locals too – from their builders to the local experience providers within the vicinity of the cabins, so we’ll also try to incorporate some fun experiences for you as well. What do you reckon? Is this of interest?”

*Greta was unable to respond as she was enthusiastically and rapidly packing her bags for the outlined trip.

(To be transparent, this isn’t exactly how my time with Heyscape unfolded, but this is how it felt, and I was every bit as excited as you can imagine.)

The trip of a lifetime:

Recently I had the opportunity to experience not one, but FOUR of the beautifully restyled off grid Heyscape cabins in Western Australia. I was also invited to attend the first “Dine Amongst The Vines Event” with Fervor Food, held at the Whicher Ridge Winery. Does this sound like a lot? I agree. Let’s break down the trip, and I’ll provide a bit of insight into what you can expect with a Heyscape escape.

Heyscape live and breathe “Unique Stays in Unique Locations”. They prioritise getting people out in rural and remote areas, with an emphasis on the beauty of the West Australian landscape, so when I skimmed over the itinerary and saw my first few nights were on the outskirts of the BEAUTIFUL Busselton? Stoked. To see I then had the chance to explore a few of the more remote and rural properties in areas I’d never heard of? EVEN BETTER. And so the adventure began.

Cabin Flynn, located: Whicher Ridge Winery, from $395/night

Cabin Flynn was my introduction to Heyscape… and when it comes to the saying “First impressions count”? Flynn impressed. The restyling of the cabins has elevated an off-grid experience to a luxurious one. You’re so close to nature that you have all the benefits of camping views, but with zero of the discomfort. The mattress is a cloud, the bedding is quality linen, the towels are plush and soft, the freestanding OUTDOOR BATH? Stop. Cabin Flynn is conveniently located on Whicher Ridge winery which means you have a winery tasting at your doorstep – they also offer tours of their beautiful sensory garden, highly recommend!

Cabin Alisa, located: Whicher Ridge Winery, from $530/night

Also located on the beautiful Which Ridge Winery property, is Cabin Alisa. Across all Heyscape experiences you can expect a baseline level of quality that exceeds expectation; however, Cabin Alisa is within the “Premium Cabin” category, so it levels up even further. The cabin is super spacious, both on the interior and the exterior. The outdoor decking features a huge BBQ and a few comfortable chairs for your morning cuppa. There were also plush robes to wear before and after you experienced either the indoor OR THE OUTDOOR bath. Yes. Two bathing options here. After falling asleep by the stars (because all cabins have an enormous window beside the bed), I woke to a foggy morning with phenomenal colours. Kangaroos lounged directly in front of the cabin. The coffee machine and kettle were working overtime. I drank tea, read my book, and enjoyed the breakfast box that had been arranged. I HIGHLY recommend requesting a breakfast box or charcuterie box if you want to leave food catering to Heyscape, they offer great quality produce and plenty of options (and it’s there ready to go at your cabin)!

Cabin Fiona, located: Serpentine, from $530/night

My third stop on the Heyscape adventure was Cabin Fiona, another Premium Cabin located on a gorgeous country property in Serpentine. Cabin Fiona features all the quality furnishings of a Heyscape stay, including a SOLID interior bath. As a tall girl, I’m proud to announce that Heyscape won’t have you experiencing a shallow bath – this might only be relatable for those over 5’10, but when I tell you the depth of the bath is perfect? Believe me. Cabin Fiona also features an outdoor egg chair, attached to a gorgeous tree that sways just down from the property. They also have an outdoor net attached to the cabin… this is difficult to describe, but picture the crossover of a hammock and trampoline, and you’ve found the ultimate place to kick back and read your book or cosy up and watch the stars at night. I also had the pleasure of joining the property owners and friends for a hike through the property, finishing with stories, a glass of sparkles and a gorgeous sunset at the property viewpoint.

Cabin Tim, located: Toodyay, Avon Valley, from $530/night

“Last but not least” applies to my fourth and final stay with Heyscape, Cabin Tim. Tim falls within the “Family Cabin” category of Heyscape, and has room for a family of four with a set of bunk beds, and the standard cloud bed. A special feature for Cabin Tim, alongside the standard quality furnishings, insanely starry nights, and gorgeous country sunsets, is the inclusion of a projector! There’s a screen to set up, then you simply connect to the projector, pick your favourite show/movie/streaming service and away you go! I had a super clear night, and I thoroughly enjoyed reliving my childhood watching Shrek and demolishing a bag of popcorn. Living Barry.

Experiences:

Alongside the luxury off-grid stays with Heyscape, I had the opportunity to partake in a few local experiences in the regions I visited. And when offered a good time? Who am I to say no! A few highlights include the pottery lesson with Happs Pottery between Busselton and Dunsborough, the winery tasting at Whicher Ridge Winery, the Dine Amongst the Vines Event with Fervor Food, and hiking with a small group through the Serpentine property for a gorgeous sunset. You’ll find that the Heyscape website has a series of recommendations for activities and experiences around the areas of each of their cabins, which is an absolute GOLD MINE if you haven’t been to these areas before. I put full trust into their itinerary, and each recommendation was worthwhile. From the Toodyay bakery to Serpentine Falls, you need to trust the locals… they know.

My recommendations:

Since posting about the fabulous time I’ve had with Heyscape, I’ve had a stack of questions on where my favourite cabin was, what people should take along for their trips, and whether the experience is worth it. So here are a few of my answers.

1)    Favourite cabins: I am a water baby at heart, so the outdoor baths at the Whicher Ridge Winery cabins were my favourite (Cabin Flynn and Cabin Alisa). Everyone has their preferences though, so review the website and find what suits yours!

2)    What to take with you: Make sure to stop at the local grocery stores prior to arriving at the Heyscape cabins, as the properties are that relaxing that you don’t want to leave. Coffee and tea are provided, but BYO milk and any of your favourite foods to enjoy while you’re there. Alternatively? Put your trust in the Heyscape team and see if you can arrange one of the food boxes.

3)    Is it worth it: A stay with Heyscape is LUXE. The locations are private and off grid, and so well taken care of. They’re quality, bucket-list style stays, and something to look forward to. It’s not just a hotel, it’s a curated eco-friendly and off grid experience that allows an escape into the Australian country environment. In my opinion, it’s well worth it – and if you use the code THEGRETAWAY10 to get a discount along the way.

Overall, I had a fabulous time with Heyscape. I met a bunch of the team, and the passion for offering a premium experience is clearly embedded into their roles. From the CEO to the marketing team, the tradies and the cabin management team, the pride that has gone into the Heyscape brand is clear and I consider myself incredibly lucky to have experienced it.

Check out Heyscape on TikTok and Instagram for more information, and have a look at my pages to put the faces to the names of each of the cabins I got to explore!

xoxo Greta

Polly’s Mum?

I documented the growth of a monstrous stye on my eye, it went global, gained over 200 million views in a few short weeks and I am now recognised in public for being Polly’s mum (Polly, short for Polly-sty-rene). Let me explain…

It all started toward the end of the final few weeks of my Master’s degree of Clinical Psychology. I had assessments to submit and was in week 9 of placement, working with children as a provisional psychologist in a school setting. Questions were swirling around surrounding what I would be doing beyond the degree – where was I going to live? Work? Base my existence? A paradox of choice was knock knock knockin’ on Gretty’s door (I have a juke box implanted into my brain, get used to musical references). Outside of wanting to take time off, I hadn’t the slightest clue which direction to go in.

I do a pretty good job of maintaining a stable exterior most of the time, but at that point in time, clearly, I couldn’t quite control the stress of my situation, and it broke through in a volcanic form on my eyelid. Typically, exercise is a big stabiliser in my life, however in this case I also think swimming in a public pool a few days prior contributed to the development of the enormous stye on my eye. I woke up with not one but two small styes on each eye, and thought surely they’ll disappear. narrator: lol. To be fair, one did disappear, but the other grew inspiration from the size of my nose and became a gasp-worthy addition to my face. When it rains, it pours vibes ya know?

Over the prior few years, I had developed a relatively thicc social media following from talking in an unfiltered manner online. I grew a following of over 100K across Tiktok and IG through telling stories of van builds, travels, random misfortunate events (such as drowning my laptop and ipad simultaneously) and sharing top study tips. So, when I developed the growth on my eyelid it was only natural for me to document and self-deprecate along the way. Liddle did I realise just how many people would join the journey, and just how fucking long the journey would last. After sharing video close-ups of the enlarged lid, I begrudgingly attended the emergency room for the stye as it continued to grow at a rate that would have me questioning the capacity of my eyelid to house it- I properly thought the bastard would split open. And there were also plenty of comments expressing concern surrounding orbital cellulitis (nasty shiet). From there began the journey. I went on three rounds of antibiotics, attended two optometrist appointments, endured TWO surgeries to remove the THREE cysts/chalazions from within the lid and had 3 separate visits to an ophthalmologist. To this day, almost 5 months later, my eyelid still looks a little funky. And to this day, I have never experienced anything quite like the pain of a needle entering and filling my eyelid with whatever tf goes into the numbing fluid.

And that my friends, is the story of Polly. There are other parts to it, like the first time I was recognised in a McDonald’s drive thru, or the small coastal town of Robe, or the merchandise that ACTUALLY LEGITIMATELY SOLD. But that can be for another day. Thanks for reading, take care of yourself and tell someone you love them. xx

Liddle problem here.

The ol’ 7 hour emergency room visit.

Rlly cute progress during the first round of antibiotics.

The Page’s Purpose

There’s something cathartic, soothing and enjoyable about writing down your thoughts and ideas on paper (or online). It’s different to sharing the stories in photo or video form, and I’m excited to delve into various topics, highlight the lessons learnt, and share some of my favourite adventure memories online.

Travel isn’t the extent of this page, though. If you’ve followed along thus far, you’ll know my interests span far beyond travel and encompass all things fitness, psychology, friendship, drawing and beyond. Consider this the trunk of the tree, that will lead you to a stack of branches and leaves of different colours. My brain is bursting with ideas and I am so excited to begin sharing through a new platform.

Happy to have you here.

xx
